Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has alleged that TRS leaders were intimidating the voters to make them vote in favour of ruling party’s candidates in the MLC elections for Graduates constituencies.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS leaders were adopting illegal means to win the MLC elections at any costs. The ruling party leaders, including ministers, MPs and MLAs, were threatening the voters of Graduates’ constituencies of dire consequences if they don’t vote for TRS candidates. He said voters were being pressured to take oaths that they would vote for TRS in the MLC polls. He said that the Congress party has gathered the videos of such illegal oath taking events across six districts and they were being submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking action.
Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the ECI take stern action against the malpractice of forcing the voters to swear in advance that they would vote for the ruling party. He said inaction by the ECI in this regard would lead to suspicion that the commission was in collusion with the TRS to manipulate the MLC elections.
The TPCC chief alleged that TRS ministers were openly threatening teachers unions of action if they don’t support the ruling party.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that by indulging in unethical and immoral practices to win MLC polls, TRS was insulting all the graduates. The ruling party is giving an impression that the graduates of all categories were not free to cast their vote in favour of their candidate/party. He said all graduates should take this as a prestige issue and defeat TRS and BJP in MLC elections.
The TPCC Chief said that the Congress party was contesting the MLC elections on the issue of unemployment and problems of government employees. “We want to assure the government employees and also the unemployed youth that the Congress party would fight for their cause under all circumstances,” he said adding that the Congress party’s victory in MLC elections would put both TRS Govt in Telangana and BJP Govt at the Centre in huge pressure and they would immediately resolve all the pending issue fearing erosion of their base.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has no moral right to seek the votes either from the employees or the unemployed youth as he has not resolved their problems during the last seven years. Similarly, he said CM KCR must explain as to why not a single DSC was held in the last seven years for the recruitment of teachers.
The TPCC chief slammed Minister K. Tarakarama Rao for holding a meeting with the Brahmin community to seek its votes in MLC polls. He said why Brahmins would vote for TRS when an advocate couple, Vaman Rao and Nagamani, belonging to Brahmin community, were brutally murdered allegedly by TRS leaders. He said CM KCR did not even condemn the murders of the lawyer couple leave alone ordering the CBI enquiry into the killing.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS Government not only neglected the private educational institutions, but it has been harassing them since 2014. He said that the KCR Govt did nothing for the private educational institutions or the private teachers during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said thousands of private teachers almost starved due to closure of schools in view of Coronavirus. He said TRS Govt did not extend any financial assistance to private teachers and now the ruling party leaders were forcing them to vote for TRS candidates.
The TPCC chief ridiculed Minister KTR’s assurance of providing housing sites to journalists. He said KCR Govt realises the importance of journalists only during election period. Accusing CM KCR of deceiving the journalists, he said the Chief Minister did nothing to provide house sites to journalists in his first term from 2014-18. Just before the 2018 elections, he gave an assurance that he would resolve the pending issues of journalists. Once the elections were over, CM KCR forgot the promise and now his son and minister KTR repeated the same promise in view of MLC elections. He reminded that the previous Congress regimes provided house sites to hundreds of journalists thrice without any trouble.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that KCR was a big critic of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao when he was in power at the Centre. However, he is now trying to encash PVNR’s reputation by exploiting his family members. He said Narasimha Rao’s daughter Vani Devi was fielded as a candidate from Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar constituency as a sacrificial lamb. He said that CM KCR would mistreat Vani Devi exactly the same way he dealt with Shankaramma, the mother of Telangana martyr Kasoju Srikhantha Chary. He said Shankaramma was first given a ticket from a seat (Huzurnagar) which she could not win. Later, she was sidelined to an extent that she was denied ticket in the 2018 election. He said PV Narasimha Rao was a Congressman till his last breath. It is shameless on the part of ruling party to seek votes for TRS by showing the picture of a ex-Congress Prime Minister.
The TPCC Chief conveyed greetings to all women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. He said that the previous Congress governments have worked the empowerment of women in all fields and provided them equal growth opportunities. He said that the country’s only woman Prime Minister (Smt. Indira Gandhi Ji) belonged to the Congress and the party itself is now being run by a woman (Smt. Sonia Gandhi).
Further, he said that the Congress party was committed to provide 33% reservation for women in Assemblies and Parliament and it would pass the Bill in the Parliament after its return to power in 2023 elections.
TPCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, Fishermen Cell Chairman Mettu Sai and other leaders were also present.
